Health fund rebates
If you have optical extras cover, your prescription safety glasses may be claimable, just like everyday glasses.
Are they claimable?
Prescription safety glasses are prescription glasses, so if your private health insurance includes optical extras, you may be able to claim them.
What you get back depends on your fund, your level of cover, any waiting periods and how much of your annual limit you've already used.
We can't tell you what your fund will pay. If the rebate matters to you, check with your fund before you order.
How to claim
- Check your cover. Ask your fund whether prescription frames and lenses are included, what your limit is and whether a waiting period applies.
- Place your order. Choose your frame and lenses and send us your script.
- Claim with your receipt. We'll give you an itemised tax invoice to submit to your fund.
Buying through work
If your employer covers your eyewear through a workplace program, there's usually nothing for you to claim. If you pay for part of it yourself, such as a lens upgrade, ask your fund whether that portion is claimable.
Work-related expenses
If you buy protective eyewear for work yourself, you may be able to claim it as a work-related expense. Check with your accountant or the Australian Taxation Office for advice on your situation.
